I recognize today is a Monday, but I could not wait to share some exciting updates with you. Over the past six weeks or so, I’ve had a chance to take some much-needed R&R and think about 2023 at Maverick. I am thrilled to share some updates regarding the newsletter. As some may have recognized, the newsletter is structured differently and includes a premium paid subscription for readers. But before we go any further, I thought it would be helpful to walk through the immediate changes at Maverick. Don’t worry, we’ll be kicking things off tomorrow with the first post in our Before Launch Series! Let’s walk through the changes in more detail.
Organization & branding
One of the more exciting changes you will recognize is how the new newsletter is organized on Substack. We are now organizing posts based on content type to help you navigate the material you’re interested in. The new categories recognize the roots of what drove Maverick to where it is today and are found when starting at the Maverick home page on your web browser. The three categories are ‘Tools for Search’, ‘Reflections’, and ‘Education’, each providing a style of writing that will be valuable to any reader interested in acquisition entrepreneurship. Over time posts will lean heavily into the ‘Tools for Search’ category but will depend on reader feedback. To help you identify which topic a post is on, you may notice color-coordinated arrows on the images for each post. Green arrows highlight ‘Tools for Search’ posts, blue for ‘Education’, and orange for ‘Reflections’. I hope this helps you navigate through it all with ease.
Premium subscriptions
Another shift in the Maverick newsletter is the introduction of premium subscriptions for $5/month. Free members will continue to receive access to some of the ‘Reflections’ posts on the newsletter but will have increasingly limited access to ‘Search Tools’ and ‘Education’. Free members will not be able to post comments and engage in dialogue, but they will continue to receive occasional posts in addition to any free posts in the archive.
Premium members, on the other hand, will get full access and be able to post comments. The main benefit of the Premium subscription will be access to ‘Tools for Search’, which will expand significantly with time over the next year. Any questions asked in the comments will be answered in a new series, Ask Maverick, available only to paid subscribers. As we move forward, content and format may shift as we grow this community to better address the needs of our top readers.
My goal for Maverick is to continue producing useful, high-quality content for readers and test out new forms of engagement to improve your experience as a subscriber. If, for whatever reason, you feel you are not getting value out of your Premium subscription, please don’t hesitate to send me an email.
Frequency
For the time being, Free members get access to occasional posts, while Premium subscribers will get posts bi-weekly. Depending on the response of this new model, we may increase the frequency to weekly for Premium subscribers with different types of content (i.e., new categories, formats, etc.) to keep up with demand. Any feedback you have is more than welcome!
That’s all for now. Welcome to the next chapter of Maverick; I hope you enjoy.
See you tomorrow!
